Murphy Sarawak Oil Co. Ltd. is a subsidiary of Murphy Exploration & Production Co. International, based in Houston, USA. It is a fully integrated company involved in oil and gas exploration and production activities worldwide. In Malaysia, Murphy is the Operator of 8 offshore licenses for exploration and production activities. Murphy Sarawak is the operator of the West Patricia field in Block SK 309 and SK 311, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia and holds an 85 % interest and Petronas Carigali, the production arm of state-owned Petronas, holds the remaining interest. The West Patricia field is located 40 km offshore Bintulu, Sarawak, in 130 feet of water. Challenges Like any oil and gas facility, Murphy’s West Patricia facilities comprises of a large number of mechanical, electrical and control equipment. To address areas such as resource allocation management, equipment and parts inventory, performance measurement, production issues due to equipment failures and cost escalation, Murphy decided to install a Computerised Asset Maintenance Management System (CAMMS). The history of each item of equipment and its efficiency and maintenance track record are essential data for managing production operations and this information can only readily be extracted from a computerised system. ODL-SB was engaged by Murphy Sarawak Oil Co. Ltd to propose, specify, design, install and implement the most suitable asset management solution. Solution After evaluation of requirements, ODL-SB proposed the Datastream 7i software for Murphy’s asset management needs. Datastream 7i is a fully Web-architected asset management system that provides capability for cost-effective, asset-intensive, and results-oriented maintenance operations. It is able to manage every phase an assets life cycle and track all of Murphys' maintenance processes, including labor hours, response time, and spare parts used. This data can then be used to establish trends and reports, outlining the maintenance department's efficiency and effectiveness. The D7i software modules listed below were installed and configured. The software was installed on 2 separate servers; the Web Application Server which runs Oracle 9iAS and the D7i modules and the Database Server which holds the Oracle9i Database. There are 10 concurrent licensed users, who access D7i through Internet Explorer 6.0 from anywhere and at any time over LANs and WANs. - Base ODL-SB took on the role of overall project management for the entire project, from facilitating project scoping, data mapping and conducting business process analysis workshops. ODL-SB also assisted in the development of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), performed Site Acceptance Tests and conducted "Train the Trainer" programs. Our operational support services provided hand-holding support on-site in Bintulu, Sarawak when the system went "Live". Scope studies for site assessment and project definition took approximately 1 week, followed by software installation and system design, this taking approximately 1 month. The customized user interface applications were developed and site acceptance tests were completed with 1˝ months, with training and system “go-live” taking and further 1 week. The project began in July 2003 and was completed within 3 months. Phase 2 which covers building an interface with an existing document management system, implementation of bar coding and mobile is expected to kick-off in mid-March 2004. Benefits The software has greatly assisted Murphy with Asset Management, Maintenance Management (Preventive Maintenance, Breakdown Maintenance and Scheduling) and in implementing a Work Order Management System to manage the day-to-day maintenance operations in multiple locations. It has allowed Murphy to handle and control the maintenance activities by automating the project management process from initiation to completion, allocating budgets, labour, and equipment for work activities, and helping Murphy streamline the amount of time, personnel and money spent on these activities. |
